Job Specification1. Undertake structural design and analysis tasks in support of the company's programmes forsubmarines/ships2. Generate structural solutions/configurations and provide the associated supporting analytical assessmentdemonstrating fitness for purpose and safety3. Undertake code based structural design to Naval/Lloyds or other relevant national structural standards4. For specialised roles, undertake advanced finite element analysis (eg. non-linear elasto-plastic,fatigue etc)5. Provide guidance information (via sketches/drawings etc) support and advice to CAD design/modellingteams6. Ensure designs are efficient and compatible with economic considerations to design for production andcost reductionPerson Specification1. Good analysis capabilities as well as an ability to understand and scheme out structural arrangements2. Works well in a multi-discipline environment and is pro-active in taking responsibility and seeking out allrequired supporting information3. Has the personal resourcefulness and desire to be able to develop and widen capability4. High level of computer literacy and ability to use software toolsQualifications1. Graduate/chartered status in mechanical engineering/structural eng./naval architecture/mathematicsExperience1. Ideally experienced in submarine/ship structural design or related field (eg. offshore engineering)2. Knowledge of classical stress analysis, ability to use appropriate first principles/standard or code formulae3. Applications from structural integrity specialists in finite element analysis, fatigue and fracture, safetycase work etc would be welcomed4 Experience of communicating via sketches/schematics5.
